Largest historical storage centre in the world
„Hamburgs new UNESCO World Heritage“
The Speicherstadt and the adjacent Kontorhaus District with the Chilehaus as the outstanding building represent the largest historical warehouse and trading centre in the world. Goods were stored and processed duty-free in the warehouses, and merchants had their business premises in the Kontorhaus buildings – accounting houses.
At the beginning of the 1990s saved from demolition and listed as a historical monument, Speicherstadt in 2015, together with the Kontorhausviertel and Chilehaus, receives the coveted World Heritage status and becomes Hamburg’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A private city tour through Hamburg's UNESCO World Heritage Site gives ...
